Are Phablets the New Mobile Industry Savior? Apple Inc (AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930) with Mega Share

With the launch of big screen mobiles from leading Smartphone manufacturers including Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930), it is time for the phablets to take over the mobile industry, as shown in a report prepared by IDC (International Data Corporation).

According to the report, phablet shipments would cross 175 million-mark in 2014 and the volume might reach around 318 million in 2015. At the same time, tablet shipments are expected to stand around 233 million in 2015 indicating a clear win for the phablets and these phablets are likely to hamper the growth of 7-inch tablets.

Tom Mainelli, program VP at IDC, added, “What works well today could very well shift tomorrow as phones gain larger screens, tablets become more powerful replacements for PCs, and even smartwatch screens join the fray.” He has not ruled out the possibility of innovations and more products in the near future.

Apple (AAPL)

Earlier, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930) launched four different products ahead of the launch of Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)‘s iPhone 6. Galaxy Note 4 is the premium offering with a 5.7-inch screen with Quad HD for better resolution, super AMOLED screen, advanced camera features, and extended battery life. Note Edge is a more sophisticated offering with its curved screen, which is used to read messages and notification from the curved surface.

These innovative products are likely to help Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930) in improving its falling global Smartphone market. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to unveil iPhone 6 on September 9 and it is said to a game changer in the Smartphone industry. Apple is going to release two different models with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen with smooth edges.
