Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Targets Increasing Its Market Share Of Touch Screens And Being More User Friendly With The Introduction Of Windows 10

On September 30, 2014 at an event in San Francisco, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced its new operating system namely Windows 10. To highlight the advancement in this version the company skipped the number 9 after previous version of the operating system. To meet the needs of its customers the company also introduced Windows Insider Program.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Executive vice president of the Operating Systems group, Terry Myerson said that,

“Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows, unlocking new experiences to give customers new ways to work, play and connect, …, This will be our most comprehensive operating system and the best release Microsoft has ever done for our business customers, and we look forward to working together with our broader Windows community to bring Windows 10 to life in the months ahead.”

According to press release, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is focusing more to customization with this new operating system. The system will be used in Xbox, PCs, phones, tablets and other tiny gadgets. For developers, Microsoft is presenting unified platform for all type of devices.

With the introduction of Windows 10 following revisions have been done: start menu is expanded; working with four apps in the same screen is possible with the new layout; easy monitoring of open apps and files with new task view button is possible; users have multiple customized desktops and can switch between them.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) introduced touch-friendly screens first with Windows 8. Some users were not satisfied with this change and continues to use classical version of the windows namely Windows 7. According to recent stats, 50% of the people are still using five years old Windows 7 and 25% of people are using Windows XP. Windows 8 has only 6.3% market share two years after its introduction. Microsoft operating systems are used by 1.5 billion people in all around the world and the company is planning capture its customers who have not started to use Windows 8 version of the system.
