Blackberry Ltd (BBRY) Realizes Its Dream of Partnering With Samsung

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s CEO, John Chen, opened his interview session on Thursday, 13th November, 2014 with the observation that this day was indeed one which was serious as also crucial not just for the company but for him too. Heading the Canadian mobile maker, BlackBerry, has certainly not been a walk through the garden for Mr. John Chen and forging a partnership with the globally acclaimed Korean brand Samsung has definitely fetched plenty of relief.

Following is a statement from the CEO which echoed more relief than euphoria –

“A big goal of ours from Day 1 — and this is now Day 365 — we know we need to have a server that integrates. Today is that day that we’ve been working hard for the entire year.”

While total application of the partnership is still a few months away, some of the ways in which the tie-up will be apparent entails BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s cross-platform with Samsung’s KNOX to form a single security suite and segregation of personal data from professional arena. During his interview on CNBC, Mr. Chen stated very categorically that –

“The whole partner program has always been a dream of ours. We know we have to expand our ecosystem. We know we need help from the carriers, the distributors, the ISVs (independent software vendors) like Salesforce.com and technology partnership like Samsung.”

Amongst the three prongs namely finances, enterprise and distribution that form the strategic alliance, it was the enterprise segment which was focused upon the most at Thursday’s announcement. Having experienced an exodus of customers owing to lack of acceptance of BES platform, BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has been aggressively pushing its platform not just through a brilliant sales force but pushing the regulatory authorities too.

Another feather in its cap is a classic phone which BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is scheduled to release on 17th December, 2014, and its high point is that it is a combination of old keyboard format that people are comfortable using with several new innovative features.
