With more than half of the states in the United States supporting Gay couple marriages, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has come forward to reveal his sexual orientation. Cook says that he is proud of being a gay and considers it as one of the greatest gifts from the God.
It is one of the biggest revelations from the most valuable publicly traded company’s leader in U.S. In a series of corporate leaders disclosing their sexual orientation publically, Trevor Burgess, CEO of CI Financial Inc in Florida, said, “If Tim Cook can be openly gay, then it just shouldn’t matter in any other corporation in America.” Burgess announced his sexual orientation in August and these revelations from some of the top business leaders of the world indicate a change in the American social lives.
While talking about his sexuality in the article written on Businessweek, Tim Cook said,
“While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven’t publicly acknowledged it either, until now. So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.”
While talking about the current civil rights movement of gay people, Cook added,
“I don’t consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I’ve benefited from the sacrifice of others. So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.”
As of now, 32 states in the U.S. allow same-sex marriages and with more sports, Hollywood, and business celebrities joining the movement along with tech giant such as Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), the movement is likely to grow at an exponential rate.
