Founded way back in 1969 by George Soros, Doros Fund Management LLC is a private American investment management group that operates both as a hedge fund and a family business. An annual return of about 20% makes it one of the most successful investment firms playing in the hedge fund market. Data from its SEC 13F filing dated November 14, 2014 shows that the investment firm has close to $13 billion worth of portfolio. Topmost among its stock holdings are YPF SOCIEDAD ANONIMA (OTCMKTS:YPFSF), Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA), and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:TEVA). Soros Fund Management’s shares of more than 13 million at a market value of about $492 million in YPF SOCIEDAD ANONIMA (OTCMKTS:YPFSF) is the biggest of the fund’s investment, representing around 3.67% of its total portfolio. YPF SOCIEDAD ANONIMA (OTCMKTS:YPFSF) is Argentina’s government owned energy company involved in exploration and development of energy resources. YPF SOCIEDAD ANONIMA (OTCMKTS:YPFSF) currently stands to benefit from a new Argentine law regarding the country’s energy sector.
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) has an investment from Soros Fund Management in the amount of about $390 million. Covering 4.4 million shares, it represents 2.9% of the fund’s portfolio. Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA)behind the record-breaking “11.11 Singles Day” shopping festival managed to garner sales of $9 billion in a day, and is reportedly grappling with the possibility of delivery networks being unable to cope up with the large order volume resulting from the “Singles Day”.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:TEVA) has an investment from Soros Fund Management in the amount of about $334 million, covering about 6 million shares. This pharmaceutical company reported a quarterly net profit margin of 17.16% as of September 2014, compared to 6.37% for the same period last year. Other hedge funds holding top positions with TEVA include Point State Capital and Highfields Capital Management.
