McNamee’s Long Term Picks : Apple Inc (AAPL), Facebook Inc (FB), Google Inc (GOOGL), Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA)

If strategic investing is valued amongst investors, it is for the sake of accruing substantial returns and this is why experts specializing in this niche are regarded highly. Roger McNamee is renowned in the field of strategic investment and that is why his mention of four tech stocks namely Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA), Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) for long term investing is worth exploring. During his appearance on CNBC’s ‘Closing Bell’ McNamee explained –

“I’m a huge believer in long-term fundamental investing and I think the tech sector offers windows.”

While for Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), he expressed the opinion that both had enormous growth potential and were susceptible to volatile fluctuations in the weeks ahead, his justification for including Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) was as follows –

“Their growth rates aren’t going to be huge but their stocks are priced in such a way that you don’t need them to be huge. And they both generate enormous amounts of cash.”

Apple (AAPL)

Sure enough, when US stocks registered a sharp dip on 13th October, 2014, a number of factors were held responsible and ranged from Ebola virus to Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA)’s performance. Simultaneously Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been struggling with the GT Technologies Bankruptcy claim since it is bound to have repercussions on Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iWatch that was supposed to feature a sapphire screen.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), on its part, has something positive to offer since it has been successful in customizing Indonesia’s mobile network so that it will be easier and faster for users to access the company’s app. Thanks to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts, coverage for Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has improved up to 70% and services were made available in such a way that users in remote areas were redirected to servers that formed an integral part of network infrastructure.

So certain was Roger McNamee on his recommendations that he even went on to say –

“I would stick with these. Away from this list I think you’re going to be subject to a lot of forces you may not be able to anticipate.”

As uncertainties, he quoted –

“I look at Putin, the Middle East, Ebola, Europe and China. Those are plenty of reasons to be concerned. Having a correction seems totally reasonable to me.”
