Soros Fund Management LLC Initiates Position In Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA) And Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO)

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA)

In the recent SEC 13F filing of Soros Fund Management, George Soros has increased stakes in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) and Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO). The company filed its SEC filing yesterday and as per the filing, it has current portfolio value of $13.39 billion.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) is the major change in Soros Fund Management’s portfolio as the fund has purchased 4.4 million shares of the company with market value of $390 million. Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) forms 2.92% of their overall portfolio and the shares of the online giant trades at $115.10 with market cap of $286.10 billion.

In addition to Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA), Soros Fund Management initiated its position in Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) itself. As per its recent SEC 13F filing, the fund owns 5,052,412 shares of the company with current market value of $205 million.

Besides these two companies, Soros Fund Management has its largest investment in Y P F Sociedad Anonima (YPF) accounting for 3.67% of the fund’s portfolio with 13,324,763 shares of the company at current market value of $492 million. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:TEVA) is another primary stock holding of Soros Fund Management and forms 2.50% of its overall portfolio with 6,231,772 shares of the company.

In addition to these new positions, Soros Fund Management has reduced its investments in Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) and now owns shares worth $82.6 million. Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) was in trouble with both FTC as well as William Ackman with accusations of running a pyramid scheme. Ackman even gave a presentation indicating the scheme, although it didn’t work out well.

Over the last four quarters, the fund has produced returns of 8.53% and as per its recent filing; the fund has primary investments in information technology and finance industry.
